The following was taken from an interview with Dr. Randy E. Taylor, and is a brief history of the way that God has worked over the years to grow the God Save America Revival Conferences into what they are today.

God Save America began as a rally in 1976, the bicentennial year of our Nation.  At that time, I was a youth director and our youth department was on fire and growing by leaps and bounds. In those days, some of the young men in our youth group said, "There are rock-a-thons and marathons, why can't we have a preach-a-thon?"  So, we decided to have this rally at the downtown gazebo in Mesquite, Texas; however, the gazebo was still under construction by our city and their first event was to be a patriotic gathering on the Fourth of July. Our youth department wanted to have a God Save America rally in April of that year. It was a difficult process to secure a permit from city hall.  Our young people picketed city hall to make it happen. By faith we planned for the event regardless of the permit situation.

The day we had chosen for the rally was also going to be on a football night in our city.  The downtown gazebo was just a short distance and on the same road as the football stadium of the Mesquite High School. Having our rally would require traffic to flow in and around the gazebo and stadium. With God's help, we eventually secured the permit to be the first to use the gazebo. We then began to promote and advertise the rally to other youth departments and churches in our area and some surrounding states.  Across the street from the gazebo in the city square we hung a banner which said, “God Save America.”  For a twenty-four hour period prior to the meeting, our entire youth department walked around the city streets with promotional signs encouraging people to come to the rally.  There were preacher boys on street corners preaching through the night and all day long.  There were young people in devil outfits with signs saying, “You don’t want to come to this meeting.  This rally is to help save America.”

The night came, and to our surprise, the place was packed out with people.  There was no room to park, and it created a traffic jam in downtown Mesquite. People came from everywhere. There was no room to move, and when the rally began there was singing and preaching by area youth directors, unlike anything our youth department could ever expect. When the night was over, it had made a huge impact on youth departments in and around our area and state that lasted for a long while. We all believed that God could and would do something to help our country have revival. We never thought that we would ever do anything like that again, but then invitations came to hold rallies in other youth departments. Soulwinning spawned because of it. Young men and young women surrendered their lives to the will of God. Opportunities to preach youth conferences began springing up everywhere. Invitations began to roll in, and then another invitation and another invitation. One meeting led to another; one regional conference led to another; one National Conference led to another.

When this event took place, I was just beginning to preach and hold tent revivals and outside engagements. I had been called to evangelism at the age of seventeen, even though I already held a youth director position at Open Door Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas. I was still in high school, but this burden was on my heart for my nation to see true revival one person at a time, one church at a time. The Bible says in II Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." I believed it then, and I believe it now. As this burden grew, other men began to help organize nationwide rallies and conferences. From east to west and north to south of this country, God Save America Conferences have blanketed revival to our churches. I pray religiously every day, "Dear God, give us a new generation of old-fashioned fundamentalism." This is not just a conference, it is a cause! These conferences have been in colleges, schools, and churches of all sizes. Even the late, great Dr. Jack Hyles and the First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana, hosted a National Conference. One year, we decided to have a blitz for God Save America Revival Conferences every Monday and Tuesday, and every Thursday and Friday. All over this nation, the greatest preachers alive in our country came together and preached at those conferences every week for an entire year. There have been conferences where we have had to direct traffic just like that first rally, because the crowds were so enormous with cars, church vans, and buses that were backed up in the turning lane trying to get in to the conference.

If we were true to ourselves, there ought to be an intense longing for our Nation to repent of our sins and for God to move again in the churches of our country. We need to express, unsparingly, our determination to make the truth of God's Word revealed and to see the Holy Spirit move in power among us. I propose and preach that we have a continual aim and an intentional address to the problems of America to get right with God. This is our country, right or wrong. When we are right, we need to keep it right, but when we are wrong we need to make it right!  I believe that revival is a work of the Holy Spirit.  We could be committing the unpardonable sin when we do not allow God to have His way for a national revival. Don't give up on this country. Don't believe she's gone too far. I believe God can bring revival to our wonderful country, and if He could, He just might do it for our nation. I believe in the words of the prophet Isaiah, "And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations…" (Isaiah 58:12). Help us pray for America and be a part of this national revival endeavor by attending one of these powerful conferences.
